-> Is customer service an art or a science?

For us, good customer service is both an art and a science
-it should appeal to our members and be effective. Consider what
our members say about us:

The freedom HSLDA allows me to have as I homeschool is wonderful!
They handle the law and I get to dedicate the time to my daughter.
- National City, CA

HSLDA members since 1993, our membership is just as important to
us as our children's curriculum. Thank you HSLDA for all you do on
our behalf! - West Valley, NY

1. Speak Out During August Recess

Congress is in recess, which means now is a good time to visit your
representative and senators in their home offices. You can encourage
those who have battled to protect parental rights and homeschool
freedom, while impressing upon others the importance of these issues.

2. Sweden: Take Action to Support Homeschoolers

Please take a moment to post a comment to an article on homeschooling
in the Swedish newspaper Uppsala Nya Tidning and help your fellow
homeschoolers.

3. Texas: Official Apologizes for Discrimination over Driver's License

Home School Legal Defense Association intervened after a member family
had to show additional documentation to renew their son's driver's
license. A state official insisted the incident was a mistake and
would not happen again.

5. PHC Prep Academy Students Score Big

PHC Prep Academy, one of HSLDA's newest member benefits which helps
students who hope to earn college credit, is achieving incredible
success. Ninety four percent of PHC Prep students who took the AP U.S.
Government and Politics exam in May 2010 earned a passing grade of 3
or better. For comparison, in 2009 only 55% of students who took the
same exam earned a passing grade. In order to qualify for college
credit a passing grade is necessary.

6. Home School Foundation: Special Needs Fund Accepting Fall
Applications

Do you have a child with special needs? The Home School Foundation is
now accepting fall applications for their Special Needs Children Fund.
This fund enables financially struggling homeschooling families to
provide a quality education for their children with special learning
needs. It also helps with special therapies, equipment, testing and
specialized materials.

"I wanted to thank you so much for the generous blessing of your grant
to our family. I cannot tell you how much it has helped us in getting
Caleb's curriculum and some of the supplies he needs. There are things
that we never would have been able to get due to the cost," a family
wrote us recently after receiving a Special Needs scholarship. "If you
could have only seen his face as we opened the boxes from UPS and
Fedex you would have been blessed. He was so excited that it was very
difficult for him to not just do it all that night."

main ways. Participation is open to a wider range of entrants and the
prizes are more significant.

as participants in the CLA Music Track major.

goals relating to schoolwork, chores, hobbies, or other areas of their
lives? Do they need help with motivation and follow-through? Catch the
vision for goal setting from this week's guest, Alan Hudson, as he
