Update: Over 30 States Adopt National Education Standards Over the past several months, states have been steadily adopting the national education standards that the National Governor's Association released, making them eligible for additional federal funds. Conference Encourages Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish Homeschoolers Last month, an international homeschooling conference held in Telemark, Norway allowed the presidents of three Nordic homeschool associations to meet for the first time. Wisconsin: State Corrects Q&A at HSLDA Request After HSLDA insisted, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction agreed to change online information that could have prompted spurious complaints against homeschooling families. Georgia: Extra Form Unauthorized As the beginning of the school year approaches, HSLDA members should be wary of local public school officials asking them to complete and submit unauthorized forms. Parental Rights: The First Goal Is Within Sight The Parental Rights Amendment is poised to push past its first hurdle: Passage in the U.S. House of Representatives early in the next session of Congress. Home School Foundation: Widows Fund Accepting Applications Do you know a widow or widower in need? The Home School Foundation's Widows Fund is now accepting fall applications through October 1. The Widows Fund enables widows/widowers to continue homeschooling by helping them with the cost of curriculum and other needs. Recognizing the unique challenges and often bleak financial circumstances that widows and widowers face, this fund offers HSLDA membership, curriculum scholarships, and emergency help so that dedicated widows/widowers can continue to direct their children's education at home.
