====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia: Notice of Intent Deadline Approaching Dear Virginia Members: If you are operating your homeschool program under the home instruction statute (Va. Code Ann. sec. 22.1-254.1.), your notice of intent is due to your local superintendent by August 15. Although it is not necessary to use any form at all, we have posted a form on the members-only section of our website (available at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8831 ) for those who want to be certain they are supplying all that is required, but no more than is required. Forms created by local school systems almost always ask for information to which they are not entitled. If a child will turn 18 before the first day of school in your district, or will not be 5 until after September 30, then a notice does not need to be filed. When filing a notice of intent, a description of curriculum must be attached for each child. This is simply a list of the subjects you intend to teach that child, along with the corresponding primary textbook for each subject. Families under the religious exemption do not need to file a notice of intent (or year-end assessment, either).
