HSLDA: Members Save on PHC Distance Learning Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Do you have an exceptional high school student who is looking for a challenge? A college student seeking to earn transfer credit? An adult learner wishing to further his education? This fall, Patrick Henry College is offering a full slate of Distance Learning courses from its core curriculum, and we welcome HSLDA members to participate. Our courses are academically rigorous, classically oriented, biblical in worldview, and interactive in format. Distance Learning at PHC allows you to take advantage of Patrick Henry College's outstanding liberal arts core curriculum without leaving the comfort of your home. Our commitment to the student is that the distance learning experience replicates the on-campus classroom experience as much as possible. PHC places considerable emphasis on dialogue between professor and student, and between students and their classmates. We seek to duplicate this method in our online programs through discussion forums and live chats. Consistent with our on-campus program, PHC DL classes are rigorous and challenging, allowing bright high school students to excel in what might be considered sophomore-level work at a traditional college. PHC's unswerving commitment to Christ-centered education also carries through to the DL program, where students are continually challenged to grow in their faith and to develop a biblical worldview. There are two categories of Distance Learning students: 1) Degree-seeking students who are those pursuing graduation from PHC, but want the flexibility to complete some of their coursework at home. 2) Non-degree students who are advanced high school students, college-age, or adults -- anyone not yet admitted to pursue a degree at Patrick Henry who wishes to earn credit with the college. So how can PHC distance learning fit in your educational plans? Whether you want to take advanced college classes while still in high school, pursue personal development, or earn a degree from PHC, Distance Learning could be a great fit! To apply, you can choose between the full degree seeking application and the shorter non-degree application. Both applications and the class descriptions are available at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8679 . The application deadline for the non-degree seeking program has been extended to August 1 for the fall semester, with classes beginning August 23. As an added benefit, HSLDA member families receive an exclusive 5% tuition discount. We hope that you will consider joining us in all God is doing at PHC this year. Please email me at distancelearning@phc.edu or call me at 1-888-338-1776 (toll free) or 540-441-8123 (direct) if you have any questions. I hope I can hear from you soon!
