1. Battle Escalates over Homeschooled Child Seized by Swedish
Government

Attorneys with Home School Legal Defense Association and Alliance
Defense Fund have filed an application with the European Court of
Human Rights asking it to hear the case of a 7-year-old boy seized by
Swedish authorities because his parents homeschool.

2. Will Elena Kagan Use International Law as Supreme Court Justice?

HSLDA urges members to contact their U.S. senators and express their
concern regarding the nomination of Elena Kagan for U.S. Supreme Court
justice. Kagan's emphasis on international law could pose a danger to
parental rights should she be confirmed.

3. Sweden Bans Homeschooling, Religious Instruction

The New American reports that Sweden has adopted a sweeping new
education "reform" package that essentially prohibits homeschooling
and forces all schools to teach the same government curriculum.

4. South Carolina: Bill Postponing Homeschoolers' Jury Duty Enacted

Signed into law on May 25, 2010, Senate Bill 1300 provides for a
postponement of jury duty for a person primarily responsible for the
education of a child in a homeschool.

5. Alabama: Legislation Affecting Homeschoolers Dies

Three bills which would have affected the rights of homeschooling
families in Alabama died at the end of the 2010 legislative session in
April.
