====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== West Virginia--Reminder: End-of-Year Assessment Due by June 30 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, This is a friendly reminder that your child's annual evaluation is due to your district superintendent by June 30. According to West Virginia law, parents providing home education under the notification option must submit an academic assessment of their child for the previous school year. Parents have the following four assessment options: 1. A written narrative prepared by a certified teacher who has reviewed the child's portfolio indicating that "the child's academic progress for the year is in accordance with the child's abilities." 2. A nationally normed, standardized achievement test that is published within the last 10 years; administered by a person who meets the qualifications established by the publisher or provider of the test, but not the parent; and covers the following subjects: reading, language, mathematics, science and social studies. 3. A state testing program 4. Any alternative academic assessment of proficiency agreed upon by the superintendent. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to submit your evaluation by the deadline. For more detailed information on the end-of-year assessment requirements, visit our website at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8525 . Thank you for your support of homeschooling in West Virginia!
