====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== HSLDA: Iowa HSAP Families Now Welcome in HSLDA Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: With state financial support for HSAPs (home school assistance programs) now reduced to 30% of per-pupil funding, and the recent addition of the requirement that HSAP families file a CPI form annually, we have decided to open up membership in HSLDA to HSAP families. We welcome the opportunity to serve Iowa HSAP families! While disputes about your HSAP program itself (e.g., benefits, books, teachers, structure, operation, etc.) or with HSAP public school staff fall outside the area in which HSLDA provides assistance, we can help HSAP families by: 1. Assisting you during social services investigations. 2. Helping your child get into college or a job, if the diploma is questioned. 3. Helping your child enter the military, if any educational issue arises. 4. Offering guidance through our special needs coordinators, high school coordinators, and struggling learner coordinators. 5. Assisting you if you are accused of violating Iowa's compulsory attendance law. 6. Assisting you in protecting your constitutional parental rights in the realm of education. 7. Protecting constitutional parental rights when threatened in the state or United States legislatures. 8. Explaining what Iowa law requires--and helping you respond to unlawful demands of school officials. 9. Assisting you in transferring out of your HSAP, if you desire. 10. And in many other ways. HSLDA does not endorse or recommend HSAP programs. A HSAP blends features of independent homeschooling with features of public education. This leaves HSAP families in the end with fewer rights than independent homeschool families. Because of this, we will continue to encourage HSAP families to migrate toward the greater freedom available through independent homeschooling. Less government control means more parental control. And we believe that's good for families! HSLDA staff will be available at the NICHE conference this weekend to answer any questions you may have. And to welcome HSAP families to apply for membership!
