====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 20, 2010 Michigan--Attend Homeschool Family Day at the Capitol! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Homeschool Family Day at the Capitol is coming to your area on May 4 and May 5, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This event will be held in Lansing, Michigan, in and around the Capitol Building. Families may choose to attend either day. Your homeschool family will have a unique opportunity to observe the legislative process and spend time with elected officials at the state Capitol at Homeschool Family Day at the Capitol. This event is co-sponsored by two homeschool fathers, Senator Alan Cropsey (33rd District) and former Representative Jack Hoogendyk. The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with an optional "early-bird" prayer walk around the state Capitol. You will learn firsthand how laws are made, attend a committee meeting, visit your representative and senator regarding specific education-related bills, observe a legislative session in progress, attend workshops, and take a guided tour of the Capitol. Learn about "The Threat to Parental Rights," "How to Communicate with Your Elected Officials," "How to Protect Your Children's Future," "Does the Declaration of Independence Really Matter," and more. At a legislative luncheon you will hear state legislators and leaders. Activities end at 3:30 p.m. with optional tours following to the Hall of Justice, the Impression 5 Science Center, or the Michigan History Museum, as well as a reception for leaders and their families. For more information, see http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8109 . We are keenly aware that our parental and homeschool freedoms are best preserved when we all stand together to defend them. Please pass this information along to your support groups and homeschool families that you know. We hope you can come this year! Sincerely, Dewitt T. Black, III HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -- their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
