-> Who are the nation's best lobbyists?

We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know
that HSLDA's Federal Relations Department is the only
national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on
Capitol Hill.

1. Draconian Homeschool Regulations Tabled--For Now

Thanks to the dogged advocacy of British homeschoolers, severe
restrictions prompted by the notorious "Badman Report" have been
tabled by the government. But the fight could be renewed depending on
the outcome of national elections to be held May 6.

2. Rhode Island: Truancy Charges Threatened Over "Locator Card"

Home School Legal Defense Association helped resolve an erroneous
request by a local assistant school superintendent that escalated into

3. Virginia: Triennial Census Is Down for the Count

Virginia's triennial school census--which has caused homeschoolers
such anxiety over the years--requires only the governor's signature to
be abolished.

4. Rhode Island: North Kingstown Corrects "Ambush" Policy

On April 5 the North Kingstown School Committee adopted a favorable
homeschool policy, thus making amends for "ambushing" the homeschool
community last year with onerous policy changes.

7. Translators Needed to Help Swedish Homeschoolers

A ban on homeschooling in Sweden is expected to be voted on by the
Swedish parliament in June. HSLDA is doing all we can to support the
small band of parents fighting for their freedom to homeschool in that
country. If you are competent to translate Swedish, we could use your
help. While most Swedes do speak and read English, HSLDA needs a few
volunteers to help translate court documents.

If you can help us, please email your contact information to:

8. Bible Bee Seeks Hosts Who Champion Family Discipleship

The National Bible Bee is a Bible memory and Bible knowledge
competition, but more importantly, it acts as a stimulus plan for
family discipleship in our nation. The brand new "Sword Study"
curriculum, parent and host guidebooks, and innumerable support
features undergird local hosts and their contestant families as they
prepare for the local Bible Bee contests on August 28, 2010. Hosts
organize, plan and conduct family-centered activities throughout the
summer as well as the local contest, all with the intent of
encouraging parents as they disciple their children through in-depth
study of the Word of God, Scripture memorization and prayer.

group. Winning entries will be posted online, and cash prizes will be
awarded.

10. "Home School Heartbeat": Take A Trip!

Do you ever dream about planning creative, unusual, or just
logistically successful field trips? This week on the program, Mike
Smith offers suggestions for discovering new and innovative field trip
ideas, planning a smooth trip, and preparing your students to get the
most out of the learning experience! Plus, several homeschool

Are you tied to your plans? Does the idea of change or adjustment make
you shudder? Does your homeschool have to be perfect in order to be
successful?

On Tuesday, April 20 at 9:00 p.m. (ET), self-proclaimed
"obsessive-compulsive-perfectionist-control-freak" Rachael Carman will
explain how she is often her own worst enemy when it comes to enjoying
the homeschooling adventure. In C.H.I.L.L. O.U.T.: Homeschooling
Doesn't Have to be Perfect, Rachael will help fellow perfectionists

may fall through the cracks, you'll want to join us on Thursday, April
22 at 9:00 p.m. (ET) for Takin' Care of Business at Work and Home.
Entrepreneur Jon Tigges will share how starting your own business can
bless your family in multiple ways. With experience in launching four
family ventures, Jon will give an insider's view of the process, along
with insights on how he and his wife have been successful
entrepreneurs and homeschooling parents for years.
