====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== April 9, 2010 Colorado: Your Attendance Needed at the 2010 Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Once again, it's that time of year when Christian Home Educators of Colorado invites all homeschool families to attend the Homeschool Day at the Capitol. Join Colorado homeschooling families on Friday, April 16, in focusing on this year's theme, "Heritage and Hope - Mining Nuggets from Colorado's History." The event offers a variety of programs centered on biblical foundations for government, the U.S. Constitution, and godly citizenship. Activities will include morning and afternoon workshops for all ages, a noon rally on the west steps of the Capitol, tours of the Capitol building, an art contest, future statesman track for students, a workshop on how to become a citizen lobbyist and home education displays in the Capitol rotunda. By attending this event, you will be showing your support for the homeschooling freedoms Colorado parents and children have enjoyed for 20 years. Doors will open at 9 a.m. at the Pillar of Fire Church, located at 1340 Sherman Street in Denver, one block from the state Capitol. The church is easy to find, with three parking lots nearby. To register, go online to http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8037 , or call CHEC at 1-877-842-2432. The Home School Legal Defense Association strongly encourages as many families as possible to attend this event. Not only can you turn the event into an educational field trip for your children, but you will be making a positive impact on your legislators by dispelling negative myths about homeschool families in your face-to-face meetings. To ensure you meet with your legislators, please plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislator or send them a note of encouragement near the day of the event. Featured Events: > Excellent morning and afternoon workshops for all ages; > Children's workshops, done in a skit format, are packed out, interesting and enjoyable. > Bill Armstrong, President of Colorado Christian University, will be the keynote speaker at the noon rally; > Noon rally at the Capitol; > Afternoon workshop on "Citizen Lobbyist" > Art contest; > Homeschool displays in the Rotunda; > Future Statesman Program for ages 7-13. Please, attend this event in an effort to keep homeschooling free in Colorado. By attending this event you are making a significant statement to your representatives. We hope you can come! Michael P. Donnelly HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -- their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
