====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia--Key School Board Meeting Tomorrow Evening Dear HSLDA Members and Friends in Warren County: Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. there will be a key meeting of the Warren County School Board. Although the unlawful March 11 religious exemption policy has been suspended, it has not been outright repealed. The school board meeting tomorrow night presents us with an important opportunity to move toward a permanent solution. Leaders and representatives of a number of homeschool organizations have worked together to draft a short but complete religious exemption policy. This policy fully complies with state law, protects individual liberties, and has the strong consensus support of the leaders and representatives involved. Tomorrow night we will ask the school board to repeal the March 11 policy and adopt the consensus policy. ACTION REQUESTED If your schedule permits, please come to the meeting tomorrow evening at the Government Center at 220 North Commerce Avenue, Front Royal. A large turnout from homeschool families will send a strong message. Many leaders and representatives of homeschool organizations will be speaking during the public comments section of the board meeting. If you would like to speak, as well, I would very much appreciate it if you would talk to me beforehand. BACKGROUND HSLDA's initial email on this subject suggested that the school board may be hostile toward the religious exemption since they voted to adopt a policy that was clearly hostile. However, subsequent events lead me to believe that rather than being hostile, the board simply was not accurately informed about the policy's impact. In light of this, and the consensus policy homeschool leaders and representatives have developed, HSLDA is no longer seeking the creation of a task force.
