====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Hampshire: Attend Rally to Secure Homeschool Freedom Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The full New Hampshire House is set to vote on HB 1580 this Wednesday afternoon on March 17. At 1:00 p.m. homeschoolers from all over New Hampshire will gather at the Capitol to support the bill. Both Republicans and Democrats will hold a caucus before the House session; please be there before 1:00 to ensure that the representatives see and hear your support when they arrive. In light of recent events, homeschoolers have an opportunity to secure their cherished freedom by supporting HB 1580. If passed, the bill would amend New Hampshire's compulsory attendance law to explicitly recognize that "[i]t is the natural, fundamental right of parents to determine and direct the education of their children." Reports indicate that opponents of HB1580 are stating that by passing 1580 another law, presumably NH RSA 193-A (the home education law), would be broken. Many states have multiple ways for parents to comply with their compulsory attendance laws; there is no reason that New Hampshire should be any different. Passing HB 1580 would not "cause" any other laws to be broken. Please take action to advance this fundamental freedom. ACTION REQUESTED Attend the rally this Wednesday, March 17, to support HB 1580. Email, call and visit your legislator and give him or her the following message: "Thank you for standing with homeschoolers to defeat HB 368. Please stand with us one more time to pass HB 1580. This bill is needed to recognize in state law that parents are primarily responsible to ensure that their children receive an education. HB 1580 will help protect homeschoolers from future attempts like HB 368 and efforts by staff within the Department of Education to impose unreasonable constraints on our liberty and to interfere with our natural responsibility. HB 1580 is simple and sends a clear message that New Hampshire parents have a fundamental right to determine and direct their children's education. Please vote to pass HB1580." Thank you for your continued support of freedom and liberty in New Hampshire! Standing with you, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
