====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 2, 2010 IOWA--Calls Needed Today for Parent-Taught Driver Ed Parent-taught driver education needs your help immediately! Rep. Chris Hagenow wants to amend HF 2436 (a bill relating to driver's licenses) to give homeschool parents the right to provide driver education to their own children. The opportunity will probably come today or tomorrow as HF 2436 comes up for debate and amendment. Parent-taught driver education saves lives. Homeschool parents in some other states already reap the benefit of this safety-enhancing program. Iowa parents deserve the same. ACTION REQUESTED Call your representative TODAY and ask them to support the Hagenow amendent to HF 2436. Hagenow's amendment is officially known as "Amendment H-8182". Your message can be as simple as: "Please support Chris Hagenow's amendment, H-8182, to HF 2436. Statistics show that when homeschool parents teach driver education to their own children, it results in fewer tickets, fewer accidents, fewer injuries and fewer traffic deaths." Use our legislative toolbox to identify your representative: http://hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=2 BACKGROUND Parent-taught driver's ed passed overwhelmingly in 2004, but Governor Vilsack vetoed it. This year we have a tremendous opportunity to undo the damage done by Vilsack's veto. Thank you for standing with us for freedom! Scott A. Woodruff, Esq.
