====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 22, 2010 Washington: Your Attendance is Needed for the Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Washington is a state of relatively broad freedom when it comes to home education. However, that could always change with the introduction of a negative bill by a legislator who doesn't understand or support home education. While the Christian Homeschool Network (CHN) works "on the ground" in Olympia to help HSLDA monitor legislation and protect home education freedom, you can help too. One thing you can do to help ensure the continued freedom of home education in Washington for your family and for future generations is to attend the annual Homeschool Day at the Capitol on February 25. When legislators see hundreds of energetic homeschool families touring the Capitol with their bright-eyed children, it makes homeschooling more real to them, and it is more difficult for them to vote against home education should a negative bill come up. For more information about the Home Education Day at the Capitol visit: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7719 . CHN works hard monitoring legislation and keeping up relationships with legislators. Your presence will help boost attendance at the Homeschool Day at the Capitol and will be vital in protecting home education freedom in Washington. Today is the last day for early registration! While you can come if you haven't registered, early registration is strongly encouraged and helps pay for the event. Registration allows you to participate in several special presentations on current legislation, tips on meeting with your legislator, Civics 101 (for youth on up), homeschool vision and other topics. Your registration also enables you to participate in several organized Capitol tours. Another thing you can do is to volunteer to bring an apple pie to give to the legislators. This has been very well received in the past. More pies are needed for this year, so please visit http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7720 to volunteer. REQUESTED ACTION: 1) Come to the Capitol on February 25, 2010, to participate in Homeschool Day at the Capitol. 2) If you can't come to the Home Education Day at the Capitol, please pray for the event. BACKGROUND Last year several hundred homeschoolers showed up for Homeschool Day at the Capitol. Bring your family and help make this year's event even bigger. We need a large turnout to help demonstrate that the movement for home education freedom in Washington is strong! If you are not yet a member of HSLDA and would like to help us fight for greater parental rights and homeschool freedom in Washington please visit http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7721. If you would like to be put on our email list to receive vital e-lerts you may sign up at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7722 . Thank you for your part in fighting for freedom in Washington! Feel free to forward this to your friends who are homeschooling but may not be part of HSLDA.
