New Mexico--Plan Now to Attend Home School Day at the Capitol Event!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

We are pleased to let you know about this year's Home School Day at
the Capitol, sponsored by the Christian Association of Parent
Educators of New Mexico (CAPE-NM). This exciting event will be this
Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa

We believe it is extremely important for as many homeschooling
families as possible attend the 14th Annual Home School Day at the
Capitol. In our experience, capitol lobby days are one of the most
effective ways to prevent bad legislation from being enacted. The
face-to-face contact that legislators have with good homeschool
families during the Day at the Capitol makes it very hard for them to
vote against homeschooling.

The Home School Day at the Capitol is also a wonderful opportunity for
a field trip for your children to learn firsthand about our government
and how laws are made!

If possible, plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislators.
Make your plans now to attend the Home School Day at the Capitol. This
is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss!

Below are five MORE reasons to attend Legislative Day:

1) Dispel any negative myths of the homeschool movement.
2) Give legislators an understanding of the large numbers of
homeschoolers within the state.
3) Provide positive literature to legislators regarding homeschooling.
4) Spend one-on-one time with your legislator.
5) Your presence is necessary to show that the homeschool movement is
alive, well, and thriving strong.

Please, help keep homeschooling free in New Mexico. We will make a
significant statement to your elected representatives when hundreds of
home educators participate in rally at the capitol on February 4.

Contact Louis and Cindy King, Capitol Day coordinators, at
505-847-2322 (home), 575-799-9228 (cell), or ,
and RSVP before noon on Wednesday, so that nametags can be printed for
you and your children. Even if you don't RSVP, come anyway! Also, if
you know your district or the names of your legislators that will help
them earmark a packet of information for you to deliver.

Plan to pick up nametags and packets at the CAPE display on the first
floor, and meet by 9:00 a.m. in Room 307. This is the House Finance
Committee Room, which is on the west side of the Rotunda, up one
floor, just south of the elevator doors. The presentation for the Home
School Proclamation and "Home School Hour" will be in the Rotunda from
11 a.m. to 12 noon.

We hope you can come this year!

If you have time and are interested, please make an appointment to
meet your legislators: . All you need to do is
type in your ZIP code in the website listed above to find your
legislator, and then call the capitol office secretary and ask for a
brief meeting before or after the session. Or just call the
legislative switchboard at 505-986-4300 and ask for your
representative's office. Introduce yourself to his or her secretary
and ask for a brief meeting. Repeat with your state senator. If you
are hesitant, FEAR NOT! At orientation, CAPE will prepare you to meet
and greet them if you haven't done so before.

Remember to leave plenty of time for parking! For other parking
options, check out the free legislative shuttle at or for a smaller fee on parking, visit this
site: . Otherwise, just leave time to park on
the east or west side of the PERA Building just east of the
