In October, the Department of Education proposed changes to the home education rules that would significantly increase government regulation. However, the Home Education Advisory Council (HEAC) also proposed rules that more accurately reflect New Hampshire homeschool law. Members of HEAC have obtained an agreement from the commissioner of education to submit in public comment to the State Board of Education proposed rules that are virtually identical to the HEAC approved rules. However, the State Board of Education is the rule making authority and has the final say on the final version of the proposed rules. Therefore, as you enjoy the well-earned satisfaction of a great legislative victory, please take time to submit comments to the State Board of Education. The deadline for these comments is January 27. In your comments, you may also note that you support the public comment of the commissioner and that you want the State Board to accept the commissioner's proposed changes and no others.
