====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== January 12, 2010 New York: General Information and Discussion on Legal Status of Homeschooling in New York Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: By now many of you have probably heard the parents of a local homeschooling family, Richard and Margie Cressy, were arrested for failing to report to their local school district officials. HSLDA will be representing the family. HSLDA Senior Counsel Jim Mason will attend a meeting hosted by the Schenectady LEAH, a local New York State Loving Education at Home chapter. Other local support groups will also be present. The meeting will be on January 14, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary. The Seminary is located at 2810 Curry Road Extension in Schenectady, NY 12303. We encourage you to come out in support of the family and attend the meeting. Mr. Mason will discuss in general the legal status of homeschooling in New York and will address some of the issues that these types of cases bring up. There also will be a time for questions and answers. Please keep this situation and the Cressy family in your prayers. Thank you for your part in fighting for freedom in New York! Sincerely, Thomas Schmidt HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many of your friends would pay your legal fees?
