====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== California: New Work Permit Law Goes into Effect January 1, 2010 California Members and Friends of HSLDA: As many of you may remember from our October e-lert, Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB 66 into law, which allows a private school administrator to issue work permits to eligible students enrolled in private schools. Since that time, a number of California homeschool organizations have been working together to ensure that the policies and procedures put in place were easily accessible and in compliance with the new law. Many thanks goes to Mary Schofield, of counsel for HSLDA, who was involved with the drafting of the legislation and met with the California Department of Education to ensure there would be no roadblocks to getting the process to run smoothly. This joint effort with HSLDA, Family Protection Ministries, CHEA, California Homeschool Network, and Homeschool Association of California will go a long way to solve the long-standing problem for homeschoolers in obtaining work permits. We have posted on our website a Q&A at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7378 that will assist you through the process. Once the legislation goes into effect on January 1, 2010, and the forms are online, we will be able to provide further details. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the new requirements. Members can call the HSLDA legal department if you have questions. Very truly yours, Michael Smith President ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Will your friends stand by you in trouble?
