-> Will your children's inheritance retain its value?

If you pass on a legacy of freedom, your children and their
children's children will thank you. But freedom is never secure;
it must always be guarded. Membership with HSLDA is an investment
in the future that can be passed on to future generations of
families wanting to teach their children at home.

1. Washington Times Op-ed--Socialization not a Problem

One of the most persistent criticisms of homeschooling is the
accusation that homeschoolers will not be able to fully participate in
society because they lack "socialization."

Read more about it at:
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7357

.....................................................................
2. United Kingdom: Criminal Background Checks Part of Proposed
Draconian Law

A bill proposed by the British government and now making its way
through parliament would impose the most burdensome and intrusive
regulation on homeschooling in the English-speaking world.

Read more about it at:
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7358

.....................................................................
3. Rhode Island: East Providence Guarantees "Heads Up" for Policy
Changes

East Providence recently became the first town in Rhode Island to
adopt a written policy guaranteeing that homeschoolers will be
notified before changes to the policy are considered.

4. Homeschooling Thru High School: Gift of Prayer

Looking for last minute Christmas gift ideas for your spouse or your
teen? The best gift of all may be the gift of prayer or a book to
encourage a more abundant prayer life. We wish to offer a few
suggestions to consider:

> "The Only Necessary Thing" by Henri Nouwen
> "The Power of the Praying Teen" by Stormie Omartian
> "The Prayer that Changes Everything" by Stormie Omartian
> "Prayer" by Richard Foster
> "Letters to Malcolm" by C. S. Lewis
> "Experiencing Prayer with Jesus" by Henry & Norman Blackaby
> "Praying God's Word Gift Set" by Beth Moore
> "Breakthrough Intercessory Prayer Ministry," prays for your request
for a 21-day period. Read more about this resource at their website,

5. Cookbook Holiday Order Deadline Approaching

Are you considering buying a homeschool cookbook for yourself or as a
gift to a homeschooling widow or single parent? Orders must be placed
by this Friday, December 18, if you want to receive your cookbook in
time for Christmas. Also, for a limited time, if you order two or
more cookbooks you will receive $5 off each one! All profits from the
cookbook go to the Foundation's Compassion Fund.

6. Register Now for Spring Constitutional Law Online

Students are now able to register for the spring semester of
Constitutional Law Online, taught by Michael Farris, Chairman of Home
School Legal Defense Association and Chancellor of Patrick Henry
College. Registration ends the first day of class, January 4, 2010.
The course concludes June 7, 2010.

If you've always wanted to learn more about the history and background
of our legal system, from a biblical perspective, or if you're looking
for a good U.S. government class for your homeschooled students, then
this class is for you! This internet-based course follows Michael
Farris' textbook, "Constitutional Law for Enlightened Citizens," and
uses a computer-based audio CD to deliver the "classroom" lectures.
Live chat-room discussions held every two weeks allow students to pose
questions to Dr. Farris.

8. Two Weeks Left for Short Story Entries

Writers are the unacknowledged legislators of mankind, and Patrick
Henry College is once again inviting young writers to answer that
call--more specifically, A Call to Pens. The college's second annual
short story competition for students ages 12-18 invites aspiring young
writers to pen original works of fiction that thoughtfully reflect a
Christian perspective. Several cash prizes will be awarded to top
writers in each division. The entry deadline is December 30, 2009.

9. "Home School Heartbeat": Homeschooling through Illness and
Disability

Homeschooling can be challenging for a parent who has a disability or
chronic illness, but with realistic expectations and a little
encouragement, it can be done! On this week's program, find out how to
make accommodations in your homeschooling and family routines or
encourage a parent with a disability.

10. 'Tis the Season...to Prepare Your High Schooler with HSLDA's @home
e-vents!

The Christmas season is a wonderful time to relax and make memories
with loved ones. As students take a well-deserved break, the holidays
can also be a perfect time for high schoolers to consider future
plans.

If you have students in high school, HSLDA's @home e-vent archived
recordings could be the helpful resource you've been looking for!
Several of our past speakers offer practical, timely information to
smooth out the graduation-to-college transition. For homeschoolers
just embarking on the high school years, you'll find great advice and
guidance in Dr. James Stobaugh's "Designing a High School Program."
Also, Dr. Stobaugh's "SAT Preparation for Christian Students: A
Parent's Guide" explains study strategies to help your student prepare
to do his very best. In "The College Admissions Process: The
Homeschooled Student's Guide," HSLDA's high school coordinators Becky
Cooke and Diane Kummer bring clarity and a practical approach to what
can seem like an otherwise daunting task.

For whatever path your high schooler may travel, HSLDA's @home e-vents
can help make the journey a success. Enjoy the season as you prepare
for the years to come!

Visit us at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7369 for a complete
listing of past e-vents now available at your convenience.

ARCHIVE TIP: While the archive search page defaults to displaying only
the five most recent recordings, the entire archive may be searched by
date, keyword, or both. To search all recorded webinars by keyword
only, clear the date search fields by deleting the dates in the boxes
under "After" and "Before." Then, enter a topic, search term, or
speaker name in the "Keyword" box. When you're done, click "Go" to
activate the search.

Get information you need exactly when you need it with HSLDA's @home
