====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== December 4, 2009 New Hampshire--Attend State Board Public Hearing and Support Freedom Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: While the House Education Committee recently voted H.B. 368 inexpedient to legislate, the State Board of Education is continuing to review the commissioner's proposed home education rules. The New Hampshire Board of Education is scheduled to hold a public hearing regarding the proposed rules on December 9, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hampshire Department of Education building in Concord. The Board is anticipated to allow 30 minutes of public testimony. The Commissioner of Education will be asking the Board to submit a version of the rules reflecting the changes proposed by the Home Education Advisory Council (HEAC). Several homeschool leaders, representing various constituent groups, will also be testifying in favor of the rules adopted by the HEAC. You can view a comparison of the HEAC and Department of Education proposals here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7318 ACTION REQUESTED 1) While there may be limited time for comment, HSLDA encourages you to attend the New Hampshire Board of Education public hearing on December 9. A strong presence of homeschoolers at the hearing shows that homeschoolers are concerned about their freedoms and are willing to stand up and defend them. If you would like to testify, HSLDA recommends testifying in favor of the rules submitted by the HEAC. The HEAC invested long hours to make sure the rules appropriately reflect the recent legislative changes to RSA 193-A. 2) We also encourage you to submit written comments regarding the rules, by December 23, to: Mary Mayo New Hampshire Department of Education 101 Pleasant Street Concord NH 03301 Please make the following message clear in your own words: "The Home Education Advisory Council has proposed a version of the home education rules (Ed. 315) that appropriately and accurately reflects the recent legislative changes to RSA 193-A. Please adopt the HEAC's proposed changes to the rules." Thank you for your commitment to defending homeschool freedom in the Granite State. Very Truly Yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know that HSLDA's Federal Relations Department is the only national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on Capitol Hill.
