-> How long are you in for?

Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to
homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some
graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to
be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA.
It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of
homeschooling ahead.

1. Washington Times Op-ed--Homeschoolers Thrive at the Bees

It is well-known that homeschoolers excel in competitions like the
Scripps National Spelling Bee and the National Geographic Bee. Earlier
this month, the finals of another competition--the National Bible
Bee--were held. Patterned after the spelling and geography bees, the
Bible bee encourages students to learn more about the Bible.

2. New Hampshire: Important Vote Signals Victory for Homeschoolers

Homeschoolers have reason to hope that the long-term effort by some
state legislators to impose unnecessary, intrusive regulations has at
last been thwarted.

3. Prosecutor to Homeschoolers: No Compromise--You're Going to Jail!

On trial again in Germany for homeschooling their children, the Dudeks
are hoping to avoid jail time despite the threats of the state
prosecutor.

4. Register Now for Spring Constitutional Law Online

Students are now able to register for the spring semester of
Constitutional Law Online, taught by Michael Farris, chairman of Home
School Legal Defense Association and chancellor of Patrick Henry
College. Registration ends the first day of class, January 4, 2010.
The course concludes June 7, 2010.

If you've always wanted to learn more about the history and background
of our legal system, from a biblical perspective, or if you're looking
for a good U.S. government class for your homeschooled students, then
this class is for you! This internet-based course follows Michael
Farris' textbook, "Constitutional Law for Enlightened Citizens," and
uses a computer-based audio CD-ROM to deliver the "classroom"
lectures. Live chat-room discussions held every two weeks allow
students to pose questions to Dr. Farris.

5. Last Chance to Apply for PHC Journalism Scholarships

Patrick Henry College is offering scholarships for highly qualified
applicants to the college's journalism major. These privately funded
scholarships will make it more financially viable for talented,
dedicated young people to take advantage of the unique education
opportunities available to journalism students at PHC. The application
deadline is December 1, 2009.

6. Student Art Contest Coming Soon

Themes and guidelines for HSLDA's 2010 student art contest have been
posted. Original entries will be accepted beginning New Year's Day.

7. "Home School Heartbeat": Thanksgiving Proclamations from the
Revolutionary War

The Thanksgiving story doesn't end with the Pilgrims. During the
Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress issued Thanksgiving
proclamations to thank God for His blessings. Each of these blessings
has a story behind it--and some of them may surprise you! On this
week's program, host Mike Farris recounts these little-known stories
from American history.

8. Coming up on HSLDA's @home e-vents...

Prepare your heart for the coming year with Zan Tyler!

A new year can bring anticipation, excitement, and often some anxiety.
In the rush of the season, it is easy for homeschooling moms to become
overwhelmed by the task at hand.
Scripture tells us to "walk in the light as He is in the light." How
do we do that when we feel afraid or overwhelmed or worried about our
children's future? How can God's word help when we feel inadequate in
our roles as wives, mothers, and teachers?

Join author, speaker, and homeschool mom Zan Tyler on Tuesday,
December 1, at 9:00 p.m. (ET), as she relates God's promises, and
addresses common concerns homeschooling mothers face with each new
year. She reminds us that God's Word provides hope, encouragement,
motivation, and comfort for every season. As you begin this coming
year, Zan will share ways you can make a new commitment to learning
and depending on God's Word.

There is still space for you to join this e-vent--sign up now to
