HSLDA: Attend the Fourth Annual CAP Training Day--December 8!

From the HSLDA E-lert Service...

HSLDA - You're Invited to attend the
Fourth Annual CAP Training Day--December 8!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

With parental rights and homeschooling becoming more and more
threatened by the growing power of the federal government, it is
imperative that homeschool families become involved in the
congressional process. As President Dwight D. Eisenhower said in a
broadcast speech in 1954, "Politics ought to be the part-time
profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and
privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and
fruitful in our national heritage."

HSLDA's Congressional Action Program (CAP) teaches our members how to
effectively interact with Congress and facilitates lobbying days for
families to visit key members of Congress and encourage them to stand
up for homeschool freedoms!

All families must attend a CAP training day before joining us for
lobbying on the Hill. The next CAP training and preparation day will
be Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Patrick Henry College in
Purcellville, VA. We will start at 10:30 a.m., take a break for lunch
at noon, and then wrap up by 3:30 p.m.

Our training day will prepare you for our upcoming CAP on the Hill
lobbying days in Washington, D.C., which will begin in January or
February of 2010. We will have congressional staff members, HSLDA's
federal relations staff, and current CAP members share some of their
lobbying experiences and tips for what works (and what does not!), and
we will brief you on the political issues we wish to discuss with
congressional legislators and staffers.

How do I sign up?

1. To participate in the CAP training day, each family must be members
of HSLDA and complete the CAP application form at

2. This is a great time to invite friends to join HSLDA and get
involved in CAP lobbying! They will also need to fill out a CAP
registration form.

3. COST: There is a fee of $15 per family to help subsidize lunch
expenses. However, if you have paid to attend any of the previous CAP
training days, the fee is waived.

If you have any questions, please visit our CAP website: , or contact Melanie Palazzo at or (540) 338-5600.

Thank for standing with us for freedom.

Very truly yours,

J. Michael Smith, Esq.
President, HSLDA

William A. Estrada, Esq.
Director, Federal Relations Department

"We've been a Liberty Mutual customer for over 12 years. We
called and asked about our HSLDA member discount and they lowered
our premium by approx $95 per year...coincidentally the same
amount as our HSLDA annual membership fee. Thought you'd want to
