====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia: "We're Saving the Vaccine for Public School Children" Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: We have received scattered reports that homeschool families have been turned away when they tried to obtain an H1N1 vaccination for their children. For example, a mother brought her two children in to a health district office yesterday and was told that her children could not get vaccinated because they were saving vaccine for public school children. HSLDA Senior Counsel Scott Woodruff communicated with state officials and as a result the children were given immediate access to the vaccine. We are also aware that the public schools of the City of Alexandria refused to allow homeschool children to be vaccinated along with public school children. We are in communication with state officials about this problem and are working toward a resolution. Protection of the health of homeschooled children is just as important as the protection of health of public school children. We realize that the decision to seek vaccination is highly individual, and that some parents believe there are excellent reasons to forego the H1N1 vaccination. However, if you want your child to be vaccinated and a public health department has turned you away, please let us know immediately so we can look into it. In some cases there simply may not be enough vaccine for all those who want it. However, homeschool children should receive priority in receipt of the vaccine over individuals who are not in a target group, that is, a group that has been identified as especially vulnerable. Sincerely Scott A. Woodruff, Esq. HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Who's knocking on your door?
