New Hampshire--Education Committee "Still Studying" Homeschool Law!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

As you may know, the "Survey" subcommittee met on September 29. Only
four superintendents were invited to discuss their "experience" with
homeschooling. Ironically, all their "observations" seemed to support
the need for new regulations. Please see HSLDA's news article
http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/nh/200910010.asp for an account of the
meeting. This subcommittee will meet once again for a work session on
Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in Legislative Office
Building 207.

The complete House Education Committee is due to report its
recommendations on H.B. 368 by December 2. The whole committee will
have to meet to discuss this matter, presumably sometime in November.
The bill as reported out of the House Education Committee will likely
be voted on by the whole House in early January.

A comment by a Department of Education official at the hearing
suggested that the DOE's Home Education Rules (Ed 315) would be opened
up for rulemaking in the coming months. HSLDA will be following this
process to keep you informed.

ACTION REQUESTED

Please attend the Survey to Superintendents Subcommittee work session
on October 20, 2009.

We encourage strong attendance from homeschoolers at these work
sessions, because it shows that homeschoolers are concerned about
their freedoms. While there will likely be no time for public
comment, the public is welcome to attend. If possible, bring a tape
recorder or video recorder along to capture the proceedings.

Now is also a good time to make contact with your local representative
to inform him or her about your opposition to increased regulation of
homeschoolers in New Hampshire.

Thank you for your strong support of homeschool freedom in New
Hampshire!

Very truly yours,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
HSLDA Staff Attorney

-> Can you look at the clouds and tell the direction of the wind?

An interesting phenomenon of wind is that it can blow in multiple
directions at the same time, at different heights from the ground.
But usually there is a prevailing wind. HSLDA watches the gusts
and monitors the prevailing trends of change in the legal climate
of home education. So no matter which way the wind is blowing,
we're there to protect your family.
