====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== California: Reminder--Time to File Private School Affidavit Dear HSLDA California Members: The time has arrived for the annual filing of the private school affidavit. Homeschoolers operate as private schools, and they are required to file annually with the California Department of Education. If you are enrolled in a California PSP (private school satellite program), also sometimes referred to as an umbrella school, then you can disregard this email because your PSP will file the affidavit on behalf of the school. If you are enrolled in an out-of-state curriculum program, you still need to be enrolled in a California school, either by enrolling in a PSP or filing your own private school affidavit. There is no fee involved with filing a private school affidavit. The filing period is between October 1 and 15. We have reviewed the affidavit, and HSLDA does not believe there are any substantive changes or departures from what the statute requires. However, the affidavit has been significantly changed this year by rephrasing some questions, and also regrouping questions into different categories. We have revised the instructions on our website and they can be accessed on the California page at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=7038 . If you have any questions about the affidavit, please feel free to call our legal department for assistance. Michael Smith, President Contact Attorney for California ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Remember the last time you wrote a term paper? Research can be grueling-digging through archives, wading through articles, conducting interviews. But if it's related to homeschooling, you can relax a little. There's a good chance that you'll find what you're looking for in HSLDA's bimonthly Home School Court Report. Providing in-depth, insightful articles on much of what affects the world of homeschoolers, the Court Report is a must-read for the serious homeschooler. This publication is provided free to each HSLDA member.
