-> Will your children's inheritance retain its value?

If you pass on a legacy of freedom, your children and their
children's children will thank you. But freedom is never secure;
it must always be guarded. Membership with HSLDA is an investment
in the future that can be passed on to future generations of
families wanting to teach their children at home.

1. Washington Times Op-ed--Programs Suit Needs of Students

Educators are admitting that parental involvement is the key to a
child's educational success, even in a public school setting. Even
President Obama in his recent mass broadcast to public school students
in America sounded more like a parent than he did the president of the
United States, as he encouraged each student to be conscientious in
their attendance at school, their studies and their personal life.

2. Call Now to Help Change Senate Health Care Bill

The Senate Finance Committee will start marking up its version of the
health care bill today. Urgent calls are needed to committee members
asking that the creation of home visitation programs, in Subtitle I,
be taken out of the bill.

3. Sweden--the Next Germany for Homeschoolers?

After battling authorities over the right to homeschool their
7-year-old son, a Swedish couple had their boy taken away by police
just as they were about to leave the country.

4. Oklahoma: Housing Authority Denies Homeschooling

When housing authorities objected to a member family homeschooling in
an apartment, Home School Legal Defense Association pointed out the
family was merely exercising their rights under the state
constitution.

5. Indiana: District Demands Illegal Forms

HSLDA contacted a Warrick County public school official after learning
the district had mailed packets to homeschoolers making unlawful
demands regarding "registration" and curriculum planning.

6. Mississippi: Change in Certificate of Enrollment Form

HSLDA has contacted the state Office of Compulsory School Attendance
Enforcement, pointing out that the new certificate of enrollment form
deviates from state law and that it should be revised.

7. Student Essay Contest Coming Soon

HSLDA's 2009 student essay contest will begin accepting entries

8. Bible Literacy Contest Welcomes More Homeschoolers

Homeschooled students are invited to follow up their success this year
by entering the 2010 Children's International Arts Festival sponsored
by www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. Even though the Bible literacy contest is
open to all children ages 5-12, six of the eight winners in 2009 came
from homeschool families. Writing and drawing entries are already
being accepted for the seven dude-ranch vacation prizes that will be
awarded next year.

10. 'Home School Heartbeat': Wish Your Children Loved to Read?

Every homeschooling parent knows that reading is important. What you
may not know is how to cultivate a love of reading and incorporate
reading into your everyday routine. Author Richard Grant shares how to
pick books for yourself and your children, how to set aside a daily
reading time, and why telling bedtime stories can produce lasting
rewards.
