====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== August 13, 2009 Mississippi--Change in Certificate of Enrollment Dear Mississippi Members: This is a follow-up to my email to you of August 5, 2009, regarding the September 15 deadline for filing the certificate of enrollment for your home instruction program. The certificate of enrollment form developed by the Office of Compulsory School Attendance Enforcement has a change in it this year. It contains the following inquiry at the bottom of the form to which the parent, guardian, or custodian is to answer "yes" or "no": "The Mississippi Department of Education has permission to provide a copy of this certificate to the local school district upon request." HSLDA joins with the Mississippi Home Educators Association in recommending that homeschoolers check the "no" block in response to this inquiry. We do not know for what purpose such information might be used by local public school officials. Our position has always been that homeschoolers should provide no more information about their family to state officials than is required by state law.
