2. Free Telephone Seminar with Mike Smith

Join HSLDA President J. Michael Smith as he delivers a free telephone
seminar for homeschooling parents 9:30 p.m. ET, July 20. Presented by
Public Awareness Ministries, the seminar will focus on recent threats
to homeschool freedom and how parents can best defend against these
threats. The 30-minute talk will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A
session.

3. Oklahoma: Disability Benefits Restored

Home School Legal Defense Association helped a member family collect
more than $5,000 in Social Security payments that had been wrongfully
denied because they homeschool.

5. Tennessee: Religious Freedom Bill Becomes Law

On July 1, 2009, Governor Phil Bredesen signed into law legislation

6. ParentalRights.org Releases New Video

ParentalRights.org has released a new video that advocates can use in
the battle to preserve parental rights. The video features HSLDA
Chairman Mike Farris explaining why a parental rights amendment needs
to be enacted now--before supporters of the United Nations children's
treaty can bring the measure before Congress. Those interested in
sharing the message with groups should call (540) 751-1200 or email

7. Student Photo Contest Now Accepting Entries

Entries for the HSLDA 2009 student photo contest will be accepted
through August 1. Photos must illustrate one of three themes. As
always, cash prizes will be awarded and winning entries will be posted
on the HSLDA website.

8. Home School Foundation Christmas Card Contest

Every year the Home School Foundation sends Christmas cards to widows
and single parents who have received assistance from the Foundation.
We're asking homeschoolers to design the artwork for the cards
(drawings or photography are allowed). This contest is for homeschool
students OR teachers 15 years old and up. Submissions must be emailed
to contest@hslda.org by August 1, 2009.

difficulties or disabilities, with Dr. Steven Duvall's Parents as
Reading Tutors series. Tune in for Part I on Monday, July 20, at 9:00

Then, boost your own organizational confidence with HSLDA Early Years
Coordinator Vicki Bentley, as she shares practical tips and advice for
getting your life and homeschool in order. Join her on Tuesday, July

Scott Somerville returns with more encouragement for homeschooling
dads on Wednesday, July 22, at 9:00 p.m. (ET). Listen as Scott shares
the principles that changed him from a homeschooling couch potato to a

down-to-earth encouragement to stay the course. On Wednesday, July 22,

addresses these issues, you'll walk away from this session renewed and
refreshed.

Even when your homeschool is founded on solid principles, you still
may find that culture is fighting your efforts to raise godly kids. On
Thursday, July 23, at 9:00 p.m. (ET), Dr. Jeff Myers shares the
greatest threats you will face as you disciple your kids, and how
successful families have addressed those challenges.

Finally, on Thursday, July 23, at 3:00 p.m. (ET), HSLDA Staff Attorney
Thomas J. Schmidt addresses legal requirements for homeschooling in
the state of Indiana. Learn how to successfully navigate policies and
