====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== May 19, 2009 Minnesota--Homeschool Law Remains Unchanged Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Thank you for your tremendous support of homeschool freedom in Minnesota this legislative session. All your calls, emails and letters did not go unnoticed. Despite attempts by lawmakers to raise the compulsory school attendance age and expand test reporting for homeschoolers, the homeschool law did not changed. HSLDA worked closely this legislative session with MACHE to extend homeschool freedom in Minnesota. Due to the state's budget crisis, the homeschool community had an opportunity to reduce mandated reporting requirements. Unfortunately, the Homeschool Mandate Reduction language was not included in the final version of H.F. 2, the Omnibus K-12 Education bill, which would have significantly extended freedom for Minnesota homeschoolers. The Minnesota Legislature adjourned on May 18 and did not vote to extend homeschool freedom by reducing government oversight this session. Nevertheless, all of your hard work ensured no negative changes and laid the ground work for victory in future legislative battles. Thank you again for standing with us in defense of freedom! Sincerely, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How long are you in for? Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA. It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of homeschooling ahead.
