family's right to homeschool their son.

2. Texas: School District Filed Truancy Charges for Illness

When a Texas family withdrew their daughter from public school for
health reasons, their ordeal lasted for three months before HSLDA
attorneys could get truancy charges dismissed.

3. Michigan: Officials Drop Truancy Charges to Avoid Jury Trial

After an HSLDA-associated local attorney requested a jury trial for a
family charged with truancy, a Michigan school attendance officer
withdrew the charges.

HSLDA has reviewed H.R. 1388, and there is nothing in the bill as
passed by both the House and Senate that would threaten the freedom of

Contestant enrollment for the 2009 National Bible Bee competition is
now open. Many local Bible Bees are starting to fill up, so the Bible
