====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== March 26, 2009 Washington: Your Attendance Needed at Home Educators' Day at the Capitol Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, In two weeks there is an exciting event in Olympia all homeschool families should take advantage of. The annual Home Educators' Day at the Capitol event will take place on April 9, 2009, and will be hosted by the Christian Homeschool Network and Christian Heritage Home Educators of Washington. The Home Educators' Day at the Capitol is vitally important for homeschoolers across the state, as it provides an opportunity for Washington legislators to meet home-educated students and their parents. In our personal experience, well-attended homeschool events at the state Capitol can have a major impact on protecting homeschool freedom. Whenever a homeschool issue comes up before the legislature, many representatives will remember the personal contact they have had with bright and well-behaved homeschool families. On April 9, a full day of activities are planned for the whole family. The day's events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with prayer in the Columbia Room in the Capitol. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. with an orientation and legislative briefing at 9:30. Here you will you will learn about current issues and bills that matter to home educators. You will also be given timely information on how to approach your legislators. The main event will start at 11:30 with a Home Educators' Celebration "Under the Dome" in the Rotunda of the Capitol. During this time you will hear from several speakers, including several state legislators. To participate in the morning activities, you will need to register with the Christian Homeschool Network. Additional opportunities throughout the day will include possible visits with your local legislators or participating in arranged tours (by reservation only) of the Washington Capitol. You are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance to visit your legislators that afternoon.
