====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 19, 2009 Minnesota--Attend Capitol Day to Support Reduction in Regulations Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators (MACHE) invites all home-educating families to its Home School Day at the Capitol on Monday, March 2, 2009. MACHE's legislative liaison John Tuma has worked with members of the Senate and House Education Committee to introduce a bill that significantly reduces the burdens on homeschool families and superintendents. Because of the state budget crisis, there is a desire among policy makers to reduce expenses wherever possible. Expenses can be saved by reducing the amount of reporting required by homeschool families. Families will meet in the Capitol rotunda at 10:30 a.m. There will be a short program, after which you and your family will be encouraged to meet with your legislators. The event is free, and no registration is necessary. In 25 years, HSLDA has seen that effective capitol lobby days are important to further the interests of homeschooling. A face-to-face meeting between a legislator and a homeschooling family gives legislators the opportunity to see firsthand the positive benefits of homeschooling. Informed homeschooling constituents who meet with and demonstrate interest in their legislator's activities provide that legislator with reasons to vote in favor of maintaining homeschool freedom. In addition to protecting your freedom, the Home School Day at the Capitol also provides an opportunity to your children for a field trip to learn about state government and how laws are made in Minnesota.
