====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Arizona--Exciting Free Evening Seminar Coming Next Week Dear Arizona HSLDA Members and Friends, Next Friday, February 20, Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) will be hosting a free evening seminar titled "Homeschooling Trends--the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." This seminar will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Faith Family Church in Chandler. HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt will be speaking at the event. He will start by sharing some of the recent positive victories the homeschooling community has seen across the country, including the California case, In Re Jonathan L. et al. From his experiences as a staff attorney, Tj will share some of the recent attacks to homeschooling freedom that HSLDA has seen on both a local and national level. Ongoing cases, negative legislation, and troublesome situations will all be discussed. Tj will also talk about another issue that raises a lot of questions in the homeschooling community--publicly funded virtual school programs. These programs are often marketed to homeschool parents and presented as a potential benefit to the established homeschool community. While Arizona homeschooling law has a lot of freedom for parents to teach their children at home, it is important that we remain vigilant to possible issues that could impact our freedom. This evening seminar is free to anyone interested hearing about the recent homeschooling trends. Please contact your homeschooling friends and let know about this event. For more information on this free evening seminar, please go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=6114 . If you are not a member of HSLDA and would like to partner with us in protecting and defending the right of parents to teach their children at home, you can join at the seminar. As an added benefit, anyone who joins or renews at the seminar will receive $10 of a one year membership or $25 of two years. Hope to see you there! Sincerely, Thomas J. Schmidt HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -- their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
