Vermont: New Commissioner Appointed

Dear Vermont HSLDA Members and Friends:

The Vermont State Board of Education has approved the selection of
longtime school superintendent, principal and teacher Armando Vilaseca
to be the next Department of Education Commissioner.

The Commissioner of Education is an important figure to Vermont
Homeschoolers because of his role in overseeing the Vermont Home Study
Department, including his role in calling hearings when necessary and
granting religious exemptions.

An article about Vilaseca can be seen here:
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=5840

While the commissioner will likely focus primarily on the public
school system, hopefully he will be open to hearing suggestions about
improvements that could be made to Vermont's home study law and its
execution by the department.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to freedom for
Vermont homeschoolers.

Sincerely,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq
HSLDA Staff Attorney
