Rhode Island: Don't File Notice of Intent Yet
Dear HSLDA Member:
We are advising HSLDA member families in the Exeter-West Greenwich school district to postpone filing their letter of intent for the coming year.
For over a year now, HSLDA, Amy Brock of Rhode Island Guild of Home Teachers, Kristine Greene, and other local homeschoolers have been hammering away at Exeter-West Greenwich to get an acceptable homeschool policy. The written 1994 policy is obsolete and abusive.
A few weeks ago the school system sent out a policy revision to area homeschool families and implied that local homeschoolers approved it. That is not accurate. The version sent out was under discussion, but never approved or consented to on behalf of homeschoolers. While the revision is an improvement over the old, obsolete policy, it still falls short. Until you hear further, we advise you to hold off filing for the coming year. If you wish, you can file any year-end progress report or attendance report you were planning on filing.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Sincerely,
Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney

Providing in-depth, insightful articles on much of what affects the world of homeschoolers, the Court Report is a must-read for the serious homeschooler.
