In the wake of the unanimous ruling of the Second District Appellate Court of Appeal to recognize homeschooling as a legal option in California, two of California's most senior officials have given their opinion of the ruling.

A single low test score by a homeschool student resulted in demands for remediation by state education officials. Home School Legal Defense Association was able to show that those demands were premature, and that remediation was not needed.

The Department of Education recently sent a letter to a homeschooling family asking for information that is required only for an initial declaration of intent. HSLDA encourages other families who receive this letter not to use it to file their "subsequent year" declaration of homeschooling.
