====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Ohio--ODE Receives nearly 9,000 Comments on Homeschooling Regulation Dear Ohio Members and Friends: As we rejoice in the decision by a California appeals court that homeschooling is legal under the current framework of laws without parents needing a teaching certificate, we want to recognize and thank all Ohio homeschoolers who took the time to comment on the current homeschool rule review process and work to preserve homeschooling freedom in the Buckeye State. Officials in the Ohio Department of Education report that they received nearly 9,000 comments from the public regarding the five-year review process for Ohio's homeschooling regulation. We are grateful for the involvement of our members and other supporters of homeschooling in Ohio. That large of a response shows us that many Ohio homeschoolers took the time to make the point that homeschooling regulations in Ohio are working fine and do not need to be changed. In a previous message we reported that this was the first time a review of the homeschool regulation has ever received a public comment period. Now that the public comment period has ended, the DOE will review the comments and determine whether or not it should submit recommended changes to the State Board of Education. By asking for every homeschooler in Ohio to comment, HSLDA hoped to provide a massive public response that would overwhelmingly show that for those most affected, the current rule is working just fine and doesn't need any tinkering.
