====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== July 30, 2008 Ohio: New Information on -08 Schools and Homeschool Regulations Comment Deadline Approaching Dear HSLDA Members: As a result of changes at the Ohio Department of Education, Nina Pace has taken over the responsibility of handling non-public school options which encompasses homeschooling and -08 schools. As a result of this change, members who form private schools for truly held religious beliefs under OAC 3301-35-08 should check the HSLDA website for updates to forms and memorandum with a new address for -08 school administrators to file the required report to parents. The memo and forms can be found on our members site at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=5373 Also, as a reminder, public comments regarding the Ohio Homeschool regulation are due August 8. If you haven't yet, we are asking you to take a moment to write a comment telling the ODE that the current regulations have served Ohio well and do not require any modification. In writing your comment you may wish to personalize your input by sharing what home education has meant to you and your family. You may also wish to inform the ODE that the current regulation establishes an appropriate balance between the state's interest in education and parents' rights to direct their children's education. We want to make sure that the ODE receives thousands and thousands of comments indicating that there is no need nor desire for change in the homeschool regulations. ACTION REQUESTED 1. Go to http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=5316 and register your comments about the ODE's intent to change O.A.C. 3301-34. The deadline to comment is August 8. 2. Forward this message to others. Anyone who is a "stakeholder" may register comments. This means that if you homeschool in Ohio, have previously homeschooled in Ohio, are considering homeschooling in Ohio, or have a family member or friend who is homeschooling in Ohio, you may comment to the ODE.
