District of Columbia--Your Attendance is Needed at the Final SBOE Hearing Wednesday to Protect Homeschooling Freedom!
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
This is our final chance! Everyone who homeschools in D.C. needs to attend the hearing this Wednesday. The D.C. State Board of Education will be voting on the homeschooling regulations this Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at its monthly public meeting. As you know, the proposed regulations do not adequately protect D.C. parents' freedom to direct their children's education, and the only way to stop the vote is for you to attend Wednesday's meeting.
There will be a public comment period at the beginning of the meeting during which you can ask the Board to vote "no" on the regulations until they have been properly revised. If you would like to speak, you must sign up by 5:30 p.m. TODAY by emailing Beverley Wheeler at beverley.wheeler@dc.gov .
Chris Klicka plans to testify and bring a letter signed by the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee in support of fewer homeschooling restrictions.
ACTION REQUESTED
Attend the State Board of Education meeting this Wednesday, July 16. The hearing will be held at 441 4th Street, NW, Judiciary Square, Washington, D.C. 20001 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Your children are welcome to attend, and it could be an educational field trip for them.
Sign up by 5:30 p.m. TODAY to speak during the public comment period. While you may again describe the problems with the regulations, the most important message to convey is that we want the revisions that HSLDA and the D.C. HEA and other D.C. homeschoolers have repeatedly requested. The Board and OSSE have our revisions -- we want them to keep their promise to incorporate these provisions!
Pray that God will changes the hearts of the OSSE staff and SBOE members.
For a list of changes that still need to be made, see http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=5303 .

Thank you for your support of homeschooling freedom in D.C.! The battle is not over yet, and if we pull together, we can make a difference!
Sincerely,
Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney
---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Extreme makeovers are for extreme circumstances...
Most homeschools don't need an extreme makeover, but there is something to be said for attention to detail and recognition of accomplishments. Watch the media and you'll soon see that not everyone wants home educators and homeschooling to look good. HSLDA works hard to shed light on the good work of home educators so it's obvious that we don't need someone "making-over" our homeschools. Join HSLDA and help us show the world that we're fine as we are . . . thank you!
