Massachusetts--Massachusetts State Science
and Engineering Fair Open to Homeschoolers

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Homeschoolers often perform well in spelling bees and science fairs,
and now in Massachusetts, homeschoolers have the opportunity to
participate in the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair
(MSSEF). You can find MSSEF's website at www.scifair.com .

An HSLDA member family has been working for eight years with the
science fair governing body to create procedures enabling
homeschoolers to participate. Just this month, the MSSEF's board of
directors approved procedures allowing homeschoolers to participate in
the statewide fair. However, the regional science fairs must still
agree to allow homeschoolers to participate. The regional science
fairs are held in February and March, and the top contenders are
eligible to compete in the state fair, usually held at the MIT campus
in Cambridge in early May.

Homeschoolers who are interested in participating in the MSSEF and
helping organize homeschoolers to participate in regional science
fairs should contact Pamela Campbell, leader of the Heritage
Homeschool Group, at heritagehomeschoolers@yahoo.com .

Thank you for your support of homeschooling freedom in Massachusetts.

Sincerely,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
HSLDA Staff Attorney

-> How long are you in for?

Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to
homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some
graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to
be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA.
It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of
homeschooling ahead.
