Illinois: Your Attendance Needed for Homeschool Day at the Capitol

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Christian Home Educators Coalition (CHEC) invites all homeschool
families to attend its 21st Annual Legislative Day at the Capitol. On
Wednesday, April 9, 2008, join homeschooling families from around the
state in a most influential day for home educators at the Illinois
State Capitol.

At 1 p.m. the kids will have an opportunity to sing "My Country 'Tis
of Thee" and "God Bless America" at the Lincoln Statute. This will be
followed by a 1:15 rally in the Howlett Building Auditorium. After
that you can meet with your state legislators (plan ahead and make an
appointment with them!), and then meet for the 4 o'clock picnic in
Douglas Park.

CHEC asks each family to bring two homemade cherry pies. If you are
planning to come, please let CHEC know by emailing them at
chec@chec.cc .

We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very
important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. The
current Illinois Legislature is NOT pro-family. At any time, they
could introduce legislation to restrict homeschooling.

On the other hand, we have seen how effective capitol lobby days are
in preventing legislation harmful to homeschoolers. If legislators
from either party meet a good homeschool family face-to-face, it makes
it hard for them to vote to restrict homeschooling. If they never meet
a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given
the opportunity.

You can turn the event into an educational field trip for your
children, too!

Plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislators. Take
advantage of this opportunity. Don't miss this year's great event.

Come and let your voice be heard in this critical election year.

We hope you can come!

-> How long are you in for?

Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to
homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some
graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to
be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA.
It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of
homeschooling ahead.
