Colorado: Your Attendance Needed at the Homeschool Day at the Capitol
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
Christian Home Educators of Colorado invites all homeschool families to attend the 2008 Homeschool Day at the Capitol. On Friday, April 11, join homeschooling families from around the state in focusing on this year's theme, "Restoring America's Foundation."
Take part in a variety of events centered on biblical foundations for government, the U.S. Constitution, and godly citizenship.
Activities include morning and afternoon workshops for all ages, a noon rally on the west steps of the capitol, tours of the capitol building, and home education displays in the capitol rotunda.
Show your support for the homeschooling freedoms Colorado parents and children have enjoyed for 20 years. Students may also register for the "future statesman" track.
Doors open at 9 a.m. at the Pillar of Fire Church, located at 1340 Sherman Street in Denver, 1 block from the state Capitol. The church is easy to find, with three parking lots nearby.
To register, go online to www.chec.org, or call CHEC at 1-877-842-2432.
We at the Home School Legal Defense Association believe it is very important for as many homeschool families to attend as possible. The current Colorado Legislature is NOT pro-family. At any time, they could introduce legislation to restrict homeschooling.
However, we have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing legislation harmful to homeschoolers. If a legislator from either party meets a good homeschool family face-to-face, it makes it hard for them to vote to restrict homeschooling. If they never meet a homeschooler, they will often vote against homeschooling when given the opportunity.
You can turn the event into an educational field trip for your children, too! Plan ahead and make an appointment with your legislators. Take advantage of this opportunity. Don't miss this year's great event.
Featured Events:
> Excellent morning and afternoon workshops for all ages; > David Noble of Summit Ministries will speak at the teen workshop; > Noon Rally at the Capitol; > Homeschool displays in the Rotunda; > Future Statesman Program for ages 7-13.
Cost: Workshops are free, donation appreciated; future statesman kit $6.00; Lunch is available at $6.00 each; U.S. Constitution booklet $1.00 each.
Every senator and representative has been invited to attend the noon rally. Homeschooling families will also be delivering a loaf of fresh baked bread to each legislator as a token of our appreciation for the freedoms we have under the Constitution.
Children under the age of 13 can be part of the junior legislator program, which includes homework assignments and onsite classes with entertaining skits and speakers. There will also be a special session for teens on government and civics. And the whole family is encouraged to attend the noon rally as homeschoolers make their impression in the mind of our elected officials.
BACKGROUND
Below are MORE reasons to attend the Capitol Day:
> Dispel any negative myths about the homeschool movement. > Give legislators an understanding of the large numbers of homeschoolers within the state. > Provide positive literature to legislators regarding homeschooling. > Spend one-on-one time with your legislator. > Your presence is necessary to show that the homeschool movement is alive, well, and thriving.
Please, help keep homeschooling free in Colorado. We can make a significant statement to your representatives when 1,500 home educators participate in the noontime rally at the capitol on April 11.
Come and let your voice be heard in this critical election year.
We hope you can come!
