Indiana: Dropouts Required to Homeschool Homeschool groups in several northern Indiana communities have reported that public school dropouts are being told by public school officials that they must register for homeschooling. Many of these families have no idea what the law is or how to go about homeschooling. Arizona: Family Almost Loses Benefits Recently a homeschooling family was told they could lose some benefits from the Arizona Department of Economic Services because their affidavit of homeschooling is not proof of attending school. Home School Legal Defense Association wrote a letter on behalf of our member family to help demonstrate that homeschooling was taking place and was legally sufficient under Arizona law. Virginia: Governor Signs Bills Improving Homeschool Law Virginia's legislative session closed with Governor Tim Kaine signing into law two bills which simplify both the start-up process and year-end assessments for homeschoolers in the Old Dominion. Homeschooling Thru High School--Conferences It's that time of the year, when many states are scheduling their annual homeschool conferences. Plan to attend to take advantage of the many helpful workshops, review curriculum and talk to some the authors or developers of the material of interest. Homeschoolers Eligible for Children's Art Contest Children all over the world can write and draw to win one of a dozen dude ranch vacations offered as prizes in the Children's International Arts Festival. Kids ages 5-12 can enter by answering and illustrating Bible-related questions for an online book the festival organizer plans to publish. They may also write an essay explaining why their teacher should win one of the trips.
