Nebraska--You Sent A Powerful Message!
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
When 1,300 homeschoolers show up, legislators listen.
Your presence, demeanor and testimony in Lincoln on February 26 sent a powerful message to the Education Committee--Nebraska homeschoolers are paying attention and are ready to zealously protect their liberty. For me personally, it was a privilege to be at the hearing to testify and to meet so many of you. Thank you for your prayers and concern as I battled the weather to overcome flight delays and transportation issues--I arrived at the Capitol just minutes before I was scheduled to speak!
At this point, we believe it is unlikely that L.B. 1141 will be voted out of the Education Committee. There are a number of factors that suggest this. The bill would have to overcome multiple obstacles before being acted on: The Unicameral will not be in session for much longer this year; L.B. 1141 is not a priority bill and there are many priority bills yet to be debated by the full legislature; and the Education Committee has not yet acted on this bill.
Although the Nebraska Unicameral is scheduled to end its session soon--Thursday, April 17, 2008--it is important that Nebraska homeschoolers remain vigilant should action be required.
HSLDA appreciates the work of the many homeschool groups in Nebraska who worked together to defeat this bill. A special thanks also goes to the tireless efforts of the Nebraska Christian Home Educators Association, as well as to all the families who called their legislators and attended the hearing. When homeschoolers work together, there is little that we cannot accomplish! Thank you for your support of HSLDA--we couldn't do it without your membership, support and encouragement.
Very truly yours,
Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney
---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Extreme makeovers are for extreme circumstances...
Most homeschools don't need an extreme makeover, but there is something to be said for attention to detail and recognition of accomplishments. Watch the media and you'll soon see that not everyone wants home educators and homeschooling to look good. HSLDA works hard to shed light on the good work of home educators so it's obvious that we don't need someone "making-over" our homeschools. Join HSLDA and help us show the world that we're fine as we are . . . thank you!
