====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Proposed Rules Threaten Parental Freedom in D.C. Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The Office of the State Superintendent of Education has proposed new rules for homeschooling in the District of Columbia. These rules would radically change the District's legal landscape for the worse and potentially give the government far more control over you and your children. The state school board has called a hearing for 5:30 p.m. this WEDNESDAY, March 5, 2008. This will be the only item on the board's agenda that evening, and we would like to have as many parents present as possible to testify. Despite this short notice, we must make every effort to attend, and let the board know that these regulations are neither necessary nor acceptable to D.C. parents. If you are able to come and testify, please email my office at legalDC@hslda.org. Include your name, phone number, address and what you would like to testify about (briefly). I will be sending out an analysis and talking points to help you prepare your testimony. Because each person may testify for only three minutes, we want to make sure that all the key points are covered in the testimony. Be sure to also let us know whether or not you are currently instructing your children at home. Homeschooled high school students are also invited and encouraged to attend and to testify. ACTION REQUESTED Attend the State Board of Education meeting schedule for this Wednesday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m. The hearing will be held at One Judiciary Square--First Floor Chambers, 441 Fourth St. NW Washington, D.C. 20001.
