Wyoming--House Bill 40 O.K. If Amended
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
Representatives Debbie Hammons, Pete Illoway, and Del McOmie and
Senators Jim Anderson and Michael Von Flatern have introduced House
Bill 40, which would require Wyoming children to remain in school
until age 17 unless they have their parents' written consent, the
parents meet once with school officials and the student has attended
public or private school for at least three years. Because the bill
was unclear, homeschoolers might have been required to submit one more
year of notification to their local school boards.
HSLDA has obtained a commitment from Representatives Hammons and
McOmie to amend the bill to exempt homeschoolers from the provisions
of this law if passed.
We will continue to watch this bill's progress through the Wyoming
legislature, and will keep you informed of its progress. Thank you
