Mississippi--Testing Bill Dead
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
Your calls and emails worked! According to key members of the Senate
Education Committee, Senate Bill 2271 is effectively dead. This bill
would have authorized the Mississippi State Board of Education to
require homeschool students to take and pass the same tests required
for public school students.
One senator on the Senate Education Committee said he received 500
emails and 40 telephone calls in opposition to this bill. Also, the
bill's sponsor, Senator Sampson Jackson II, was heard expressing
regret that he had even introduced the bill in the first place.
Many thanks to the hundreds of you who responded to our call for
action on this legislation, which threatened your basic homeschool
freedom. Your voices were heard--loud and clear!
