====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== February 4, 2008 Indiana--Don't Miss Homeschool Day at the Capitol Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Next week there is an exciting event all homeschool families should take advantage of. The Indiana Association of Home Educators (IAHE) will be hosting the 2008 Homeschool Day at the Capitol at in Indianapolis on Monday, February 11. The Homeschool Day at the Capitol is a vital event for homeschoolers across the state, as it provides an opportunity for Indiana legislators to meet home-educated students and their parents. Whenever a homeschool issue comes up before the legislature, many representatives will remember the personal contact they have had with bright and well-behaved homeschool families. On February 11, a full slate of activities are planned for the whole family. The events will begin at 9 a.m. with an orientation and legislative briefing in Convention Center Room 109. Here you will you will learn about current issues and bills that matter to home educators. You will also be given timely information on how to approach your legislators. The main event will start at noon with a rally in the North Atrium of State House. During this time, you will hear from several speakers, including state leaders like Eric Miller, founder of Advance America; Micah Clark from the American Family Association of Indiana; members of the legislature; and others. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to visit with your state senator and representative as well as self-guided or arranged tours of the Indiana State House. It is best to schedule an appointment in advance to visit your legislators that afternoon. To determine who your legislators are, go to HSLDA's Legislative Toolbox at: http://www.hslda.org/toolbox . To see more information on all of the activities planned for the 2008 Indiana Homeschool Day at the Capitol please go to: http://www.inhomeeducators.org/articles/article.cfm?id=91 . Please plan now to attend the Homeschool Day at the Capitol with your whole family. Thank you for your support and work towards making Indiana an even better state to homeschool our children in. Sincerely, Thomas J. (Tj) Schmidt HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How long are you in for? Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA. It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of homeschooling ahead.
