HSLDA--Michael Farris Speaking on Parental Rights in Dallas, Texas

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

You are invited to attend a special, one-time, informational rally on
Saturday, March 1 to hear Michael P. Farris, J.D. speak on the
important topic of eroding parental rights in the U.S. This is not a
topic just for homeschoolers; it is for EVERY PARENT IN AMERICA.

For years, the Supreme Court has recognized that parents have a
fundamental right to raise their children as they see fit, but that
support is being steadily undermined by judges across the country who
are denying the vital role of parents in the lives of their children
and instead, are inserting the government into a "parental" role as in
the case below:

In the early 1980s, a landmark parental rights case reached the
Washington State Supreme Court. The case involved 13-year-old Sheila
Marie Sumey, whose parents were alarmed when they found evidence of
their daughter's participation in illegal drug activity and escalating
sexual involvement. Their response was to act immediately to cut off
the negative influences in their daughter's life by grounding her.

But when Sheila went to her school counselors complaining about her
parent's actions, she was advised that she could be liberated from her
parents because there was "conflict between parent and child."
Listening to the advice she had received, Sheila notified Child
Protective Services (CPS) about her situation. She was subsequently
removed from her home and placed in foster care.

Her parents, desperate to get their daughter back, challenged the
actions of the social workers in court. They lost. Even though the
judge found that Sheila's parents had enforced reasonable rules in a
proper manner, the state law nevertheless gave CPS the authority to
split apart the Sumey family and take Sheila away.

Mike will describe the three imminent threats to parental rights, and
through his alarming research he will reveal how the long arm of
international law is reaching into U.S. courts, replacing parents'
rights with government control.

Please do not miss this special, one-time, opportunity to hear Mike's
SOLUTION which he describes as "the battle of the century for
homeschoolers, pro-family forces, and every parent in America."

-> Who are the nation's best lobbyists?

We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know
that HSLDA's National Center for Home Education is the only
national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on
Capitol Hill.
