New Mexico--Your Voice Crucial in Preserving Traditional Family
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,
Yesterday we asked you to contact the members of the New Mexico House Judicial Committee about H.B. 9, which would permit domestic partnerships for everyone, including same-sex couples. Unfortunately, H.B. 9 was heard and passed by the Judicial Committee. The full House will vote on H.B. 9 today.
We are working together with CAPE of New Mexico to defeat this bill. It is vital that you call your representative, and tell him or her to vote against H.B. 9. ACTION REQUESTED
Please call and/or email your representative in the New Mexico House today and, in your own words, give this message:
"Please oppose legislation that recognizes domestic partner rights. Please vote against House Bill 9, which is an attack on traditional marriage, erodes the family, and endangers parental rights."
You do not need to identify yourself as a homeschooler. Though this bill affects homeschoolers, it also affects every family in New Mexico.
Call your representative via the New Mexico legislative switchboard: (505) 986-4300. To find your state representative you can use our Legislative Toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=4675 .
BACKGROUND
Your right to homeschool rests on another freedom: the freedom to direct the education and upbringing of your children. Underlying your right to homeschool are parental rights, which are supported by the sanctity of marriage. Anything that undermines marriage may ultimately undermine parental rights and therefore threaten your freedom to homeschool.
Thank you for standing with us for freedom.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Klicka HSLDA Senior Counsel
